The start of a tradition

Stroopwafels (English translation: syrup waffles) are thin Dutch waffles with a syrup filling. They were first made in Gouda in the Netherlands, during the 18th or 19th century. Large versions are sold in the streets as a snack. At least that is what dictionary.com says...we say yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Saturday morning we finally got a chance to break in my new stroopwafel iron. A friend of mine from church actually went to Holland and bought it there for me. (Thanks Nelli!) We waited for an extra set of hands (aka Grandma Bleeker) to come to Cali to help. It was a lot of fun and we found out that we could do it! They were yummmmmmy!
JC with his typical smile for the camera...cheesy!
Brooke was a pro at slicing the waffles hot off the iron. You can see that Lauren was the "roller". It is quite a process and it took a lot of hands. Maybe next time we will move a little faster but regardless...they turned out great!
Lots of helpers in the kitchen...just the way I like it...most days! lol
Dayle posing with an already bitten stroopwafel! Trust me! They were really, really good but even better warm off the iron! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... plus you should have smelled the house... a hint of cinnamon.
After while, we thought we need another set of hands and recruited Grandpa to help. As you can see, my hands were fun of Reeser and Ardith was busy slicing. The kids were eating lunch and so, in comes Grandpa.
He had to take over Lauren's job of rolingl the balls before we put them in the iron. He did great!! So, everyone got a chance to help out...except Doc. He was in charge of JC and Reese - and yelling at the TV as ISU got beat by Nebraska. Bummer! Otherwise the morning was a BIG success. This is definitely a tradition that me and my girls will continue. I may need another iron as it is fun and we could totally put out the waffles in half the time...make that a quarter of the time if we get another...hmmmmmmmm Ya' know, my birthday is comin' up... hmmmmmmmmmmmm
