Hawaiian Luau

We have started a new family tradition this past few months. I have come to love these suppers as the girls have become passionate about the table decor, the meal, and their attire. Once a week we pick a theme and run with it...last night was Hawaiian. Thanks to the dress up boxes in storage we even found leis, straw hats, and grass skirts.
Dayle strikes a pose with a blow up palm tree that was from B's 11th birthday party. She could really shake it!
A shot of the table decor that B and Lauren concocted. We even had our names translated into the Hawaiian language. Kanakele was at my spot. The green fabric is leftovers from the girls' bedroom make over. Pretty creative kids!
My ohana (family) ready and waiting for the main kahuna (Doc) to come home and start grilling the tuna from his recent fishing trip. We also served Hawaiian purple rice and Hawaiian sweet rolls. Dessert was Haupia. Recipes thanks to the internet...what fun and "kinda" yummy!?
Lauren showing us her hula dance. She was busy busy as Reese was never far from her side and she did the decorating. Spanks was not a big fan of the pina coladas but did like the fresh pineapple. I agree!
JC just loved the palm tree and drug it all over the house. He ate the "chicken" pretty good and then decided we all had to swim. So we jumped in the pool afterwards to cool off. The kids swam until after the sun went down...ahhhhhhhhhh summer......
B holding the closest thing we have to a ukulele wearing the closest thing we have to a muumuu. She is trying to teach herself the acoustic guitar and looks pretty good holding it. Hang ten!
Never to be left out is Reese. We even had a very small pink hula skirt that we put on for pics. She wasn't real fond of it and took it off shortly thereafter. She looks cute though...as always! BTW, some of our other themes were Chinese, Italian, Mexican, and Olympics/USA. I promise to include our theme nights on the blog from now on. They are great as we plan, set up, and enjoy the night. Great idea for all...later...sfb
