We headed to Muscatine, Iowa last week Wednesday to hopefully play 3 games in 3 days in the Iowa Girls State Soccer tournament. Muscatine is on the Mississippi River on the Eastern border of Iowa. It was quite a trek but with great anticipation the 6 hour drive across the entire state of Iowa went pretty fast.
Pre-game prayer is always a good time to grab the camera. Keeps it all in focus and unites the team so we can play together. I usually get "goosies" at this point.
After the first victory there was a lot of picture taking. It was a great win with a final of 5-0. I did take some pics during the match but they seemed not of the best quality. Could have been the heat or could have been my nerves...who knows? So, I left those out and plan to dig through my mom's digital pics for a few later. Moving on, here is Reese with B showing us her shirt. Heelan couldn't get a State t-shirt small enough for her so we quick ironed one together. She was very proud to have a shirt for the games. It said, "My sister is...15 Bleeker" and sure got lots of smiles!
Brooke's cheering squad for the week which included my parents but did not include Dayle. She had a softball tourney. My brother Tim with his family came for Thursday's Semi-final and Friday's Championship games but somehow I didn't get any pics to prove it. Again, must have been the heat. Couldn't have possibly been my excitement?!
Had to take a picture on the hill with the IA girls athletic association logo. Good luck finding B but she is up there! (hint...look for white socks)
The sophomores (I guess at this point...Juniors! ugh) are Amber Lingle, Elle Wegher, Sam Tymkowisk, B, Megan Glover and Elle Freebern. Great group of ladies that make for a solid core in our game strategy. Heelan graduates 4 seniors from the team but there is talent comin' up...right, Lauren Bleeker? :)
Thursday's Semi-final game was a game to remember. We scored a goal with 0.4 seconds left in regulation to tie the game up 3-3. Then we played 2 overtime sessions before a senior scored the golden goal stopping the clock and giving us the win! It was amazing! Brooke scored the first goal of this game & had two assists. Here is a picture of the one assist. Awesome!
Catch me if you can! Brooke's speed was very evident this season and we look forward to watching her chase down more soccer balls this summer as club soccer picks up next week again.
I am always amazed that our sweet 16 year old daughter can be so aggressive and tough on a soccer field. She rarely falls down but usually has bodies flying around her as she runs the field. She loves soccer! And we love watching her love soccer!!
Congrats to the Heelan Crusader team...State 1A Runner-ups! After 12 State tournament apperances, we finally made it to the Championship game. Who knows what next year holds...proud to be a Sader!
