We headed to Harlan yesterday to meet Greg's latest projects---6,000 cows and boy, you can hardly believe your eyes! We just needed to see it for ourselves. The kids had a blast including Reeser but the cows may never be the same. They sure didn't relax much with the 5 little ones around. Curious but not tooooo curious to stick around! Above, the kids are watching the cows go back to their free-stalls after being milked. There are grates on the floor that keep the animals from charging them but as you can see Brooke is still holding JC and Dayle back. Smart idea!

This is where Reese was but not for long. She had no fear and we all had to hold her back from the cows. She would walk right up to the 1500 lb animals and hold out her hands for them to lick her! I am not sure that Lauren would do that!? Then again, would I??? We got a complete tour and got a complete new smell too...ahhhhhhhh dairy!

New calves that were just born...3 were there when we arrived Monday afternoon and by Tuesday morning there were over 20. The kids were really excited to see them all "just appear" over night! We do have time yet to explain all the details of the birds n the bees! After all, these 5 kids have just begun their grand adventure of being "farm" kids...in due time they will know all about EVERYTHING! In due time...

I just had to take this picture of JC and the one cow that he noticed right away. You can barely see the difference in this picture. Just look closely for the cow to the right of Jaron. It is brown and white. Not black and white like all the others. He was so excited because "THAT COW MAKES CHOCOLATE MILK!" Out of the mouth of babes...
All in all, we are very excited and happy for this opportunity. It is 1 1/2 hours (one way) to get to the dairy but we plan on seeing a lot more of it this summer. Harlan, Iowa just may never be the same!
