Taking over the Omaha Zoo

To celebrate Reese's 4th birthday we sqeezed in a trip to the Omaha Zoo. Lauren and Dayle had a soccer tournament this weekend in Council Bluffs and so we drove over the river and spent some time between games with the Harskamp family. Cousin Kenna (my Brother Tim's daughter) also turned 4 this week...she is not even 24 hours younger than Reese...and so we decided to meet for the day. Needless to say, both birthday girls had a blast...and the rest of the family had a chance to catch up!
As we traveled through the zoo, we decided that the monkeys and gorillas were the most active and very entertaining. Here is Reese, Kenna and Jaron acting like monkeys, sounds and all. We did draw a crowd but think maybe that was because of the large monkey behind the window...you can see his finger.
((Disclaimer: I did get permission to post this picture.)) And Lauren, in her soccer uniform, recreating the scene on the wall and also drawing all the cameras out of the bags. She did her best monkey impersonation but did not include monkey sounds...as much as we begged her!
This was a very frequent sighting as both girls were thrilled to reconnect. They would hug and kiss and hold hands to the point that someone usually got hurt. Cousin-love!!
Jaron and I outside as we progressed to the next stop on our journey. Sure did have fun seeing the zoo through a 6 year old curious, brave young boy's view. He only got lost once and climbed over every fence that tried to keep him out. Boyz!
Gotta love the iMax! It was a shark video and kept us all reaching for the screen to touch the jellyfish that seemed to be coming right for us. Plus we looked cute!! Dayle did get to see a few of the animals in the short hour she was there but we did purchase a year pass so we will go back soon to see more. One BIG part of her day was that she did score a goal in a 1-0 victory while we walked the zoo. Doc was at the game to cheer her on and text us the news. Way 2 go Dayle!!
The doll house! My Dad (and Mom) have made (and painted) a dollhouse for all my girls when they turn 2. Here is Reese's version. It is a 3 story home. We purchased the Loving Family set of dolls and furniture to complete the house which includes functioning doors and windows and shake shingles.
Here are the little ladies before we sang Happy Birthday! Both girls got a piece of cake, ate two bites and ran back to the dollhouse to play. I will say that the cake was super yummy and I will definitely make it again.
Love this pic! Reese is taking a big breath to blow out all her candles. She did great getting all 4 candles in 2 breaths! Happy birthday to you my little princess and mini-me!
